Understanding SEO

Many people are unfamiliar with the concept of Search Engine Optimization.  Most people have some vague understanding of the concept but either they know about a few facets or have merely heard the term.  There are others that believe that SEO is not real or is just some sort of tech scam.  Before deciding on a search engine optimization program, it is important to have a better understanding of how SEO works. 

The reality is that there are a lot of people that don’t know much about the SEO industry.  When you build a website for someone, they have a real result.  They actually get to see the product.  With SEO, it is not that easy.  While some of the procedures that a good SEO company uses to increase the rankings on search engines are proprietary, there are real aspects that can be implemented.

One of the strongest aspects of a good SEO program is content.  You have to have SEO friendly content and lots of it.  You want to have your website become a resource for others.  You also want to add content because if the search engine spiders see new content on a regular basis, they are much more likely to crawl your website on a more frequent basis. 

You also need to make sure your website is properly coded.  While keywords and meta tags do not have the same importance as they once did, they still have value.  You also need to make sure that the structure of the website is correct.  Your objective is to make it as easy as possible for the site to be navigated. 

It is also important to establish a strong linking campaign which involves linking your website with other sites and directories.  Over time, a good linking campaign will create thousands of links to your website. 

It doesn’t help that there are companies in the industry that practice bad business practices.  However you will find that in most industries.

Since a good search engine optimization program is a process and not a quick fix, people become impatient for results.  We live in a society of instant gratification.  We are all guilty of it.  The two minutes we have to wait for our microwave popcorn seems like an eternity.  However, if you show a little patience and practice good techniques, the results will happen.
